Free Lead testing for children 6 months to 6 years old and pregnant women by appointment only. It is important for pregnant women to be tested since lead poisoning is passed through the blood to the unborn child.
Please call (219) 326-6808 or (219) 874-5611 ext. 2200 to make an appointment.
Lead testing is for anyone with young children 6 months to 6 years old that want to know if their child has been exposed to lead.
Typically lead poisoning is seen in young children around the time that they are teething and putting everything in their mouths.
If you live in an older home, it is possible that some of the paint used in the home could have had lead paint in it. If it is intact there is not cause for alarm. If it is peeling or if it was remodeled with pregnant women or children in the home, these individuals should be lead tested.
Even though lead paint is the leading cause of lead poisoning, it is not the ONLY source of lead. Many products still contain lead today. If these products become defective in anyway and the lead is exposed, it increases the risk that a child could become lead poisoned. If you have any doubt, please have your child tested.
If your child has a blood lead level above 10 micrograms of lead per deciliter of blood (μg/dL) a nurse and a certified lead risk inspector will visit your home.
IF YOU ARE A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER AND WOULD LIKE US TO COME TO YOUR OFFICE TO CONDUCT LEAD TESTING, PLEASE CONTACT OUR OFFICE 219-326-6808 OR 219-874-5611 AND ASK FOR NURSING.
