LaPorte County WORKS!
**Commissioner Matias Launches Local Business Highlight Segment During
Commission Meeting**
(La Porte County, IN): On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, LaPorte County Commissioner Sheila
Matias kicked off the first of many business reports in the LaPorte County WORKS! segment of the La
Porte County Commission meeting.
“LaPorte County WORKS! honors the many businesses who call LaPorte County home. We aim to
highlight our local businesses and industries so our residents know they can grow their careers and
earn a good living right here in LaPorte County. With the hard few years we’ve had with the
pandemic, it is more important than ever to put a spotlight on our businesses, industries
and manufacturing which provide many good family-wage jobs right here in LaPorte County. My hope
is to highlight their products, services, and history because each of the companies contribute to
making our great county the premiere place to work, live and raise our families. We want to ensure
that LaPorte County residents who are seeking a new career, a better job or an opportunity for success
can look no further than the many great employers right here in beautiful LaPorte County, Indiana.”
stated Commissioner Matias.
At each commission meeting, Commissioner Sheila Matias will highlight a local company so that we
can focus on jobs right here in LaPorte County and not only “Shop Local” but also “Work Local!” At the most recent Commission meeting, Commissioner Matias presented Sullivan-Palatek, a family-owned air compressor equipment manufacturing company founded in 1984; the company has 149 employees and is currently hiring. At future meetings, Matias will continue to honor local businesses, highlight their services and products and focus on their open positions.
Commission President Rich Mrozinski strongly endorsed the program Commissioner Matias created
and said “This is a great opportunity to showcase the many diverse careers available in our LaPorte
County businesses! The pandemic certainly affected many working adults in our county and so this
project will help to put a spotlight on the many open positions for prospective employees who
are looking for new opportunities for working close to home. Sullivan-Palatek is the first of
many businesses presented during the LaPorte County WORKS! segment, and I look forward to
hearing more. We are certainly lucky to have so many great businesses and industries here in our
county.”
“La Porte County has an amazing employee base and helping to connect them with some of the
outstanding employers in our county dovetails perfectly with my efforts on the Chief Elected Officials
Board and Workforce Development. Our County has so much to offer and as we continue to attract
more companies, a primary focus of mine is continuing to put forward at least the same effort in
maintaining, growing and supporting the great companies we already have. I’m hopeful LPC Works!
will help to continue that mission,” stated Commission Vice-President Joe Haney.
“I’m happy to report that The Office of Community and Economic Development has had significant
success in attracting new employers to LaPorte County but to be clear, the foundation of every
successful economic development program starts with a rock-solid business retention
and expansion program,” stated Tony Rodriguez, Director of the Community and Economic
Development Department. “The LaPorte County Works! project accomplishes multiple goals and we
applaud Commissioner Matias for this initiative which spotlights our local
business community,” concluded Rodriguez.
