Payment Options

PAY IN OFFICE

Payments may be paid at either Treasurers Office location by cash, check, money order or by Debit/Credit card.  All checks must be made payable to the “LaPorte County Treasurer”.  The payment processor charges convenience fee at the time of card payments.  NSF checks will be charged a $25.00 fee.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm.

OUTSIDE DROP BOX

Payments may be dropped in the drop box either on the Northside of the parking lot at 300 Washington St. at the Michigan City Courthouse, OR on the southwest corner (near the bus stop) at Michigan Ave. & State St. at the LaPorte County Courthouse

PAY BY MAIL

Payments mailed are considered timely based on the POSTMARK. If you are mailing on the due date, please have the post office hand cancel your envelope to insure the postmark is the correct date.  You can mail payments to:

SPRING PAYMENTS – When making your spring payment please include the Spring remittance coupon.  Your cancelled check is your receipt.

PAYING FULL YEAR IN THE SPRING – If you want to pay your taxes for the year in the spring, please include both the Spring and Fall remittance coupons. Your cancelled check is your receipt.

FALL PAYMENTS – When making your fall payment please include the Fall remittance coupon.  Your cancelled check is your receipt.

NOTE: If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

PAY BY PHONE

Call 219-271-8510 and have the duplicate number from your tax bill readily available.  That number can be found in the upper header of the bill.

PAY AT PARTICIPATING BANKS  

Horizon Bank (LaPorte County branches ONLY) is the only bank that is authorized to accept tax payments and will accept them at least 2 weeks prior and up to the due date. You don’t have to have an account there to make your tax payment. Make your check payable to LaPorte County Treasurer. Please take your whole tax bill with you so they can validate your receipt.  They are not able to accept a payment after the due date.

Disclaimer: Payments made by any method other than in person at the Treasurer’s Office may take up to three (3) business days to be posted to the parcel.
