La Porte Circuit Court is located in La Porte, Indiana on the 3rd floor of the County Courthouse at 813 Lincolnway. The courthouse sits corner of Lincolnway and Indiana Ave.
If space remains, you may park in the courthouse parking lot in areas not designated for courthouse employees. Handicapped parking is available. If not you may park on Michigan Ave or any other side streets with available.
You will be required to go through a metal detector upon entering the Courthouse. Cell phones, pagers, etc. are prohibited in any courtroom.
Enter the courthouse via the Michigan Ave entrance (there is a ramp). An elevator is available on the first floor.
The selection of the jury normally is completed within the first day. Our jury trials can last anywhere from two (2) to five (5) days. Generally speaking, court is in session from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., with a one (1) hour break for lunch. You will be allowed to return to your homes each evening, unless sequestered.
You will receive $15.00 a day plus 44 cents per mile if you are not chosen as a juror. If you are chosen to serve as a juror, you will receive $40.00 per day plus 40 cents per mile.
Court policies vary, however, you should be prepared to provide your own meals.
If you wish, you can check on the status of the case beginning the Wednesday before trial. Please call (219) 326-6808 x 2386 and a recorded message will advise you of the status of the trial. Although the virtual operator will inform you the offices are closed, this telephone message is available 24-hours per day from the Wednesday before until the first day of trial.
