Updates from the County Commission Office:
All county buildings with the exception of the courthouse in La Porte and in Michigan City will be closed to the public effective immediately. Signs and a list of appropriate county numbers will be posted on all buildings to advise the public of this policy which is being instituted to keep our valued employees safe and to protect the public. We are conducting county business by appointment or via email, phone call, and US Mail with the exception of essential court functions.
The Michigan City and La Porte courthouses remain open for essential court functions.
The public is asked to come for essential functions only; all non-essential business should be done via phone, US Mail or email.
The first floor of the County Complex remains open for access to the Sheriff’s Department and County Jail administration for essential visits only.
Employees can access their workspace via their key fob or by calling ahead to gain access to a building.
County meetings will continue to be held as this time. We request that only essential people attend meetings in order to practice social distancing and keep to CDC guidelines. We encourage citizens to view via ALCO and are working to make other technology available for those who are interested.
