ABOUT THE CORONER
The chief responsibility of the Coroner is to determine the cause and manner of death in cases involving casualty, violence, suspicious or unexplained death. A determination is made after an investigation is completed, in some cases after autopsy and toxicology studies are obtained.
Application for Deputy Coroner
Eligibility requirements for Deputy Coroners
- GED or High School Diploma
- 21 years of age
- Valid drivers license
- Own transportation
- Must attend and complete State Coroner Training class (after hire)
- Must pass State Coroner Test for certification
- Heavy lifting with assistance
- Attention to detail
- Some computer experience
- Compassionate personality
- Must reside in LaPorte County
