***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

December 25, 2024 (La Porte, Indiana) —  Today, outgoing La Porte County Auditor Timothy Stabosz reminded county taxpayers that the deadline for his office to receive applications for property tax deductions for the 2024 pay 2025 tax year is December 31st at the close of business.  Stabosz said, “I want to thank the public for the opportunity to fulfill the role of county auditor these last 4 years, and as one last service, wish to remind taxpayers about the December 31st filing deadline for property tax deductions/exemptions.  Our office is open to walk-ins from 8am-4pm, weekdays, now through December 31st,” he said.

The office address is 555 Michigan Avenue, Suite 205, La Porte.  Applications for deductions can also be obtained on-line or by calling the office, and mailed in, but must have a December 31st or earlier postmark, Stabosz said.

“The most common deduction is for one’s homestead,” Stabosz continued.  “But there are other deductions offered that are additionally applicable to one’s homestead, including veteran’s, over 65, and blind or disabled, among others.”  (The mortgage deduction was eliminated in 2024, he said.)

Those with questions can call the auditor’s office at 219-326-6808, extension 2004, or e-mail [email protected].
